Year 2 2024 - 2025
Mrs Harrison
Welcome to Year 2 with Mrs Harrison and Miss Green
Here are a few reminders of some of the routines in Year 2.
Reading
Reading books are checked and swapped on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but if you need to change it on another day just say. Please make sure your child reads at least four times a week, each read should be recorded in your child's home reading book. Audio recordings of your child reading can be sent via our Seesaw platform so this can be checked and logged in your child's reading folder. If your child is accessing the Accelerated Reader books, they will need to quiz on their book before it is changed.
Maths - Key facts
Whiterose 1 minute Maths app - In school, we follow the White Rose Maths scheme. To work alongside the scheme, White Rose have produced a FREE app called "1-Minute Maths". It is designed to be used both in class and at home, to help children build greater number confidence and fluency. This first version of the app is aimed at Key Stage 1 pupils, and focuses on adding and subtracting – and on ‘Subitising’. It targets key practice areas in engaging, one-minute chunks! Please just search 'White Rose 1 Minute Maths' and download it for FREE from the Apple Store or Google Play Store. Encourage your child to spend just a few minutes on this daily.
Timestable Rockstars - Everyone has their own login for TT Rockstars, this was sent home at the beginning of the year. Please encourage your child to spend some time on TT Rockstars as often as you can. The children that spend more time on it build their speed at recalling times table and division facts. The children can practise all times tables in the garage, they can practise a chosen times table in the jamming session and they can build up their speed for the leader board in the studio. Each Wednesday, a set session is set and needs to be completed before your child can access other practise areas.
PE/Games
- Each week the children will have PE on a Wednesday afternoon. The children can come to school dressed in their PE kits (PE top and their school sweatshirt/hoody, and either their PE shorts or leggings/jogging bottoms for colder weather).
- All belongings should be clearly named, especially jumpers/hoody's that are likely to be removed.
Tuck
Toast and milk is available to order online for the term ahead. Should you have queries concerning tuck please speak to Mrs Rushton or Mrs Moore in the school office.
Water bottles
Water bottles are provided in school and are available to the children throughout the day.
Communication
Please make an appointment via the office if you need to speak to me about anything. I am happy to help and will make arrangements for a telephone phone call/meeting at the earliest convenience. Any urgent messages you may have regarding your child should be passed on via the office, as we are currently trying to minimise contact in order to keep everyone safe.
Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs Harrison
